Overview

Ocoee Oaks UMC is located approximately 7 miles west of downtown Orlando, FL.  It is a loving church, led by the Holy Spirit, through the congregation.  We are a diverse congregation representing peoples from a variety of backgrounds, nations, races and ages.  Our worship services are based on biblical teachings applied for today’s challenges, in a blended worship format.

Our preschool and school age kids programs reflect these beliefs and priorities, as we create a safe, loving and learning environment for the children to grow in Mind, Body and Spirit.


  • This is a dual role position, with 80% of the time spent as Director of School Age Programs (Mind, Body, Spirit – Before School, After School and Summer Camp), and 20% of the time spent as Ocoee Oaks Children, Youth, Young Adult and Family Minister.  Being in this unique position will allow the successful applicant to be a bridge between our preschool / school age programs and our church, for families who are without a home church.Qualifications:
    • A committed Christian with a growing faith, and a passion for sharing that faith in a group setting with staff, children/youth, young adults and families.
    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, develop and supervise a staff of at least 7 direct reports / volunteers.
    • Proactive leader who can work effectively with minimal supervision.
    • Well-organized/able to work efficiently with multiple priorities.
    • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft products and social media.

     

    Children thru Family Minister area Job Description

    Our Children, Youth and Young Adult / Family Minister will be a leader who is gifted in teaching and has a passion to influence others for the Kingdom. They will develop a strong understanding of our unique culture and will work to seamlessly align the goals of our Children, Youth and Young Adult / Family Ministry into the overall goals of Ocoee Oaks UMC.

    The successful candidate will be able to express and share their thoughts of what a vibrant and healthy Children, Youth and Young Adult/Family Ministry looks like. They will be passionate about their call to ministry and demonstrate a willingness to engage in the lives of children and students, their families, as well as young adults.

    The successful candidate will have a history of experience as a strong communicator, with a background in recruiting, leading teams, and developing leaders.

     

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Disciple children, teens, and young adults
    • Provide pastoral care
    • Partner with parents by creating a discipling culture and providing them with support and resources
    • Lead the development of a semester based small groups ministry
    • Capable of supplementing the preaching team and delivering messages in the Sunday worship service 3-5 times in a year
    • Maintain the church’s social media presence
    • Lead Sunday morning Children’s Moment in the worship service
    • Coordinate Sunday morning Children’s Ministry
    • Lead the Youth Group, including planning and implementing fellowship activities
    • Develop and implement a Young Adult Ministry
    • Grow the ministries by creating attractive and compelling environments to which our participants want to invite their friends
    • Show Jesus’ love through modeling
    • Challenge the Youth and Young Adults to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
    • Prepare the curriculum, teach or coordinate others teaching, for all groups / classes for children/youth/young adult ministries
    • Attend Staff Meetings as well as any other regular scheduled meetings
    • Any and all other duties/activities as assigned

    Personal Characteristics / Skill Sets:

    • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills
    • Must have a proven ability to work effectively with children, youth, young adults, parents, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
    • An effective communicator that reaches an audience of all ages
    • Being familiar with the Orange Philosophy of children, youth and family ministry would be a plus
    • Friendly and approachable disposition with a consensus building mindset

    Director of Mind, Body, Spirit Programs (Before and After School and Summer Camp) area Job Description

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 2-year College degree (Early Childhood Development or similar related degree preferred), CDA or equivalent experience in a related field (Non-profit experience preferred)
    • Have or be able to obtain and maintain CDL License, and qualify to be listed as a church bus driver on the insurance policy
    • Possess, and/or will obtain in a period deemed reasonable, Afterschool Director certification and all other certifications required/expected by regulating agencies, oversight organizations, and Senior Pastor.

     

    Core Responsibilities:

    • Directly supervises:
      • Mind, Body, Spirit (MBS) Lead Counselors and Staff/Counselor in Training (CIT)/Assistant Counselors (ACs)
    • Assist Director of Preschool in the Supervision Preschool staff and administration of Preschool operations
    • Coordinate, provide and oversee curriculum for MBS programs, submitting lesson plans weekly
    • Coordinate weekly work schedules and coverage for MBS programs and fills in as needed, providing direct care
    • Participate in School Board and Church Leadership meetings as necessary
    • Work with Senior Pastor and School Board to prepare and ensure adherence of budgeted targets and goals
    • Work to ensure MBS meets the financial/attendance goals set and approved by the Senior Pastor and School Board
    • Organize fund raisers for MBS – fall, spring.
    • Maintain knowledge of DCF laws and policies of the state of FL and the UMC pertaining to children and youth
    • Resolves escalations of parent concerns for MBS program
    • Resolves escalations of staff concerns for MBS program
    • Assists with deescalating students in distress
    • Lead by example in order to set a high standard of compliance and execution in all Ocoee Oaks School Programs Policies and Procedures
    • Responsible for the safety of children on campus and during trips off campus
    • Organize the MBS student participation in Ocoee Oaks UMC events (2 per year)
    • Assist in the ongoing development and evaluation of staff
    • Drive Bus / Van for MBS events as needed
    • Shared responsibility to be Manager on duty for facility, at times opening, at times closing
    • Ensure all programs reflect the goals and values of the Ocoee Oaks School Programs and the OOUMC
    • Actively promotes Ocoee Oaks UMC to the families in the program
    • Other duties as needed or assigned by Senior Pastor
