Overview

The Associate Director for Recruiting, Admissions, and Housing is a member of the administrative staff and reports to the Associate Dean of Students. The Associate Director has responsibility for implementation and support of programs directly related to prospective and current students at both The Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) and The General Theological Seminary (GTS).

 


Recruitment and Admissions

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Students and the Director of Doctoral Programs to plan and carry out the institutional recruitment plan at both The General Theological Seminary and Virginia Theological Seminary.
  • Develop and maintain application information on the website so that instructions about how to apply to a particular program are clear and easy to follow.
  • Schedule and plan prospective students’ visits to campus, and plan and host regular webinars.
  • Assist with processing, reviewing, and assessing admissions applications.
  • Serve as staff support for the Admissions committees at both The General Theological Seminary and Virginia Theological Seminary.
  • Coordinate the development of admissions marketing material, including print and digital media
  • Build relationships with Episcopal churches, colleges, and dioceses and represent the Seminary at conferences
  • Monitor and analyze admissions data to identify trends and opportunities
  • Make financial aid determination based upon student financial application and tax returns in accordance with the financial aid policy and inform studentsof aid decision
  • Provide the Finance Department of both The General Theological Seminary and Virginia Theological Seminary with a complete list of all admitted and returning students with all the applicable data sufficient data to apply financial aid and prepare student billing

 

Student Housing (Virginia Theological Seminary ONLY)

  • Provide housing information and describe housing guidelines for current and prospective students.
  • Assign housing to incoming and current students and provide the final housing assignment list to Facilities Operations.
  • Prepare welcome package for all students to include keys (dorm/apartment and mailbox) campus map and etc.
  • Serve as the liaison between students/student families as well as the proctors and other departments on campus (Maintenance, Information Technology, etc) as it concerns housing.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Facilities and the Associate Dean of Students, establish and maintain proper documentation concerning norms and procedures for living in Seminary-owned property (dorms, apartments, etc.)
  • Manage student move-in and move-out.  Perform walk-thru at least twice an academic year of all student housing (dorms and apartments)
  • Prepare housing agreements, collect deposits and pet fees, and maintain files of all signed agreements. Maintain renters insurance documentation for all students living in campus housing

 

Student Employment (Virginia Theological Seminary ONLY)

  • Liaise with staff and faculty in identifying and defining opportunities for student employment.Post student employment position descriptions of the HUB
  • Make recommendations and provide input to the Director for Human Resources relating to salary and position descriptions for student workers.
  • Develop and implement student employment policies and procedures.

 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Maintain up-to-date student data, both electronic and paper, according to institutional policies and best practices (including proof of student health insurance and etc.).
  • Create a welcoming environment.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or some college and no less than 3 years of higher education experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite—Word and Excel in particular.
  • Familiarity with the Episcopal Church and discernment processes.
  • Familiarity with learning management software required, experience with Blackbaud preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality.

 

The Associate Director may be required to be present for weekend events. Some overnight travel may be required
